Need an accountant ? We've got it - Meet theo_ohene25

This week on showcase we caught 15ghana's freelance accountant - theo_ohene25.

Here's a few questions we put forward to her

How did you acquire your skills?
Accounting is a learned profession like every profession out there so my skill set comes from formal education and on the job experience.

Where do you find inspiration?
I was always fascinated by numbers as a kid and grew up to have a more deep appreciation for quantitative data. Also a profession viewed as a male dominated field, I was inspired to break the odds as a woman and excel in it.

Tell us about the projects you’re most proud of and why. What was your role?
Restructuring a failing finance department.
My first official job was in a firm that was battling with its finance department due to the absence of a permanent finance and accounts manager. I went in and drafted a new and workable finance policy, restructured its filing system, solved some taxation issues and created a more concrete system and process that will work for ever.

What software(s) do you use?
Microsoft Office Suite, a personally developed payroll setup, Wave Accounting, Quick Books and Dropbox.

What’s your creative process?
I analyze every situation as a different unit and approach it with a tailored solution that will work for it.

I develop a hypothesis, use the data available to extract possible outcomes, communicate the outcomes with my client and select the best solution that best fits the issue at hand.

How do you deal with feedback?

Feedback can be good or bad. However, no matter what it is, I see it as a learning opportunity for improvement and self-development.

What do you think makes someone an accounting personnel?

To become an accounting person, one must have the education, skill set, passion, experience and most of all, a sense of professionalism.

What kind of accounting tasks/projects do you love to work on?
Audit, Taxation, Financial Analysis and Management Accounting.

Were there any mistakes you’ve made as a accounting/tax personnel and what did you learn from that experience?
I wouldn’t call them mistakes but teaching moments. This is because they have helped to become better at what I do as an accountant.

If you weren’t doing accounting services, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t into accounting I would venture into hair and beauty since I also have a passion for that.
I plan to build a beauty empire tailored for black women in the near future.

Anything else we should know about you or your skill set?
Accountants are not “zero” adding people as many perceive but we are a group of professionals guided by a code of ethics and conduct that speaks to us in everything we do whether professionally or personally.

Tell us how you heard about 15ghana and why you like it.
I heard about 15ghana when I was reading an article on how to sell your skill set online in Ghana. 15ghana gives me the opportunity to be my own boss, interact with a wide range of people and also earn an income for myself.
